2026-07-18 12:20:01

JAC Yiwei is a new energy vehicle brand under Anhui JAC Motor Group Co., Ltd. (JAC Group), officially launched on April 12, 2023. The operating entity is Yiwei Automotive Technology Co., Ltd., established on March 30, 2023, with its headquarters in Hefei, Anhui Province. JAC Group traces its roots back to the Hefei Jianghuai Automobile Manufacturing Factory, founded in 1964, and is one of China's earliest automakers to pursue new energy vehicle industrialisation and R&D, having explored NEV technologies since 2002.

JAC Yiwei is guided by the vision of "creating green and joyful intelligent mobility" and is positioned around "smart joy technology." It focuses on the mainstream mass‑market NEV segment, targeting the 70,000 to 150,000 RMB price range, with its core audience being young users and family second‑car buyers aged 20 to 35. Under the brand plan, JAC Yiwei will launch five major products within five years of its establishment. It has already built a solid technical foundation and initiated a preliminary global footprint, serving as the core vehicle for JAC Group's independent brand breakthrough in the new energy era.

Development History

The birth of the JAC Yiwei brand is the concentrated embodiment of JAC Group's decades-long automotive manufacturing heritage and 17 years of new energy technology accumulation. As early as 2002, Jianghuai began exploring lead-acid battery electric vehicles and formulated the "Pure Electric Vehicle Development Plan". In 2005, Jianghuai successfully developed the first pure electric passenger car prototype in China, opening the way for the exploration of new energy vehicle industrialization in China. Since 2007, Jianghuai has persisted in iterative R&D. After nine generations of technical iterations and four generations of product upgrades, it has accumulated leading core "three-electric" technologies, cumulatively promoting over 250,000 electric vehicles, making a positive contribution to the country's firm determination of the pure electric drive technology route. In 2010, Jianghuai launched the first pure electric car iEV1, and within the following two years, cumulatively promoted nearly 5,000 units, creating a record of third place globally and first place in China at the time. Since 2016, Jianghuai has improved the international competitiveness of whole vehicle industrialization through joint ventures with Volkswagen and collaboration with NIO. Since 2019, the group has comprehensively laid out intelligence, carrying out strategic cooperation with technology companies such as Huawei and iFlytek, and has built an intelligent ecosystem.

On March 30, 2023, to promote the high-quality development of new energy passenger car business, the group launched a new round of mixed-ownership reform and officially established Yiwei Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. JAC Group held 40%, Anqing New Energy Investment Development Company held 40%, and enterprises such as Anhui JuYi Technology and Jiangsu Longpan Technology along with the employee stock ownership platform jointly held 20%. On April 12, 2023, at the unveiling ceremony of the new JAC Group passenger car brand logo and the new brand strategy launch conference held in Hefei, the JAC Yiwei brand and the global second-generation pure electric platform — the DI Platform — were officially launched simultaneously. On May 20 of the same year, the first mass-produced model Yiwei 3 opened global pre-sale; on June 16, Yiwei 3 was officially launched, with a price range of 89,900 to 127,900 yuan. In September 2023, Yiwei 3 Champion Edition was launched, becoming the first pure electric model with a range over 500 km within 100,000 yuan with a starting price of 99,900 yuan. In December of the same year, the brand launched the Sodium Battery Flower Fairy EV in collaboration with CAS HNA, and in January 2024, mass delivery of the world's first sodium battery vehicle was achieved. In 2024, the brand successively launched iterative products such as Yiwei 3 Zhiai Edition and 2025 Yiwei 3. In May 2024, Yiwei 3 started scaled export. In 2025, the brand continued to promote the user co-creation strategy, launched the Black Pineapple Fun Edition and Liuliumei Co-branded Fun Edition models, and promoted the transition from "Product Driven" to "User Driven". In November 2025, JAC Group launched a deep integration of the passenger car business segment, and JAC Yiwei was incorporated into the unified "JAC Passenger Vehicles" brand system.

Product Lineup

JAC Yiwei has built a lean product portfolio centred on the Yiwei 3, while integrating electric models from the original JAC Group lineup—including the AiPao (iEVS4 and derivatives) and Flower Fairy (iEV6E follow‑ups)—to create a product spectrum covering the A0 to A‑segment pure electric market, with prices ranging from 60,000 to 130,000 RMB.

Yiwei Series is the brand's core line. The Yiwei 3 is a pure electric compact car (A0 segment), built on the DI Platform, measuring 4,025×1,760×1,560 mm with a 2,620 mm wheelbase, and adopting a "Bubble Universe Aesthetics" design language. It is powered by a front‑mounted single motor in two versions—70 kW and 100 kW—with a top speed of 150 km/h, 0‑100 km/h acceleration in 7.8 seconds, and a turning radius of 4.95 metres. Range options include CLTC versions of 330 km, 405 km, 505 km, with a 600 km version planned later. The 2025 Yiwei 3 starting price dropped to 69,900 RMB, with the top‑spec at 106,900 RMB. Models such as the Yiwei X3 (A‑segment SUV), Yiwei 5 (intelligent pure electric coupe), and Yiwei X5 (SUV), planned for 2023, have seen their timelines adjusted due to strategic shifts.

AiPao Series is positioned in the A‑segment pure electric sedan market, developed from the Jianghuai iEVS4 and other passenger car electric platforms, targeting the economy long‑range and high‑value segment, with average monthly sales of around 176 units in 2025‑2026. The Flower Fairy is a micro pure electric car focused on urban commuting, with later sales dropping to fewer than 50 units.

Market Performance

Since deliveries began in 2023, JAC Yiwei's domestic sales have remained weak due to intense price competition and a slower‑than‑expected product rollout, making overseas exports the brand's key sales pillar. In 2023, the brand's first full year of deliveries totalled approximately 2,500 units (Yiwei 3 sales within six months of launch). In 2024, with monthly sales averaging around 1,000‑2,000 units, annual wholesale volume reached roughly 17,500 units (all Yiwei 3 models), with exports accounting for about 22%. In 2025, wholesale sales edged down slightly to approximately 14,000‑15,000 units, with the export share rising to an average of 40%‑45% per month.

Entering 2026, according to CPCA narrow‑scope passenger car wholesale data, Yiwei 3 sales stood at 385 units in January, 241 in February, and 381 in March, bringing the first‑quarter total to roughly 1,007 units—a significant year‑on‑year decline. Full‑brand sales in February 2026 were 249 units (including Yiwei 3, AiPao, and Flower Fairy), down 25.4% year‑on‑year and 35.5% month‑on‑month. In the third quarter of 2025, the average monthly sales of the brand's three models were approximately 571 units (Yiwei 3), 176 units (AiPao), and fewer than 50 units (Flower Fairy). In Q1 2026, Yiwei 3 accounted for the vast majority of domestic wholesale sales, with monthly volumes in the 300‑450 unit range. Domestic retail sales are extremely low—only a few to dozens of units per month—indicating that real terminal demand has essentially stalled. However, export and wholesale data suggest that exports remain the key short‑term support for the brand's sales.

Core Technologies

Drawing on 17 years of new energy technology expertise from JAC Group, JAC Yiwei has built a comprehensive technology system anchored by the DI Platform and supported by four core technologies.

DI Platform (Global Second‑Generation Pure Electric Platform) is JAC Yiwei's most distinctive technical asset. The platform covers vehicle lengths from 4,000 to 4,700 mm and achieves a step‑change in spatial efficiency through innovative engineering—enabling A‑segment cars to deliver B‑segment user‑perceived space. It supports both front‑wheel and four‑wheel drive layouts, ranges of up to 800 km, and ultra‑fast charging, making it a next‑generation, evolvable, and scalable intelligent pure electric platform. The DI Platform offers four core advantages: "safer, more efficient, freer, and easier to drive."

Zero Thermal Diffusion Honeycomb Battery is Yiwei's flagship battery safety technology. Based on cylindrical cell biomimetic design and refined through four generations of iteration and real‑world application across 150,000 vehicles, it uses three core technologies—thermal isolation, electrical isolation, and thermal‑electrical decoupling—to deliver a system‑level thermal runaway solution. The battery achieves zero thermal diffusion across different life stages, failure modes, and fault locations, effectively eliminating the risk of self‑ignition. Since its official launch in 2020, the technology has been deployed in mass‑production models including the Yiwei 3.

9‑in‑1 Super Electric Drive is the highest‑integration electric drive system on the DI Platform. It deeply integrates nine components: motor, motor controller, reducer, DC/DC, charger, external power discharge, high‑voltage distribution, PTC controller, and ultra‑fast charging. With a mass power density of 5.5 kW/kg and power output ranging from 70 to 150 kW, it delivers a 30% reduction in volume, weight, and cost compared to distributed solutions. This system allowed the Yiwei 3 to maximise passenger cabin space and achieve a class‑leading minimum turning radius of 4.95 metres.

Super Flash Charging Technology was developed as China's first 46‑series large cylindrical tab‑less cell solution, combined with precision laser welding module technology, achieving an exponential reduction in internal resistance and cutting charging heat generation by over 40%. Paired with an intelligent thermal control system, it delivers 300 km of range with just 10 minutes of charging—twice the speed of conventional fast charging.

Vehicle Safety and Body Structure. The Yiwei 3 adopts a CTB battery‑body integrated collision force transmission structure, featuring a six‑vertical, seven‑horizontal cage body, 65% high‑strength steel ratio, and 1,500 MPa hot‑formed steel A‑pillars. Body torsional stiffness reaches 30,000 N·m/deg, meeting C‑NCAP five‑star safety standards, with a 100‑km/h braking distance of 37 metres.

Intelligent Driving and Smart Cockpit. The Yiwei 3 is equipped with an L2‑level intelligent assisted driving system, featuring 12 safety and driving assistance functions and 11 sensing hardware units (five external cameras, two millimetre‑wave radars, and four ultrasonic radars). The cockpit runs on the Yiwei OS custom operating system, with a class‑leading 15.6‑inch central display (high‑spec models offering an upgrade from 12.8 to 15.6 inches), supporting iFlytek voice interaction and deep Huawei ecosystem integration.

Global Footprint

JAC Yiwei adopted a global strategy from the outset and is a key component of JAC Group's dual‑track approach of "product globalisation and brand globalisation." Leveraging JAC Group's decades of overseas channel experience and a network of over 1,200 overseas marketing and service outlets, its products have been exported to more than 130 countries and regions worldwide.

In February 2024, JAC Yiwei held a departure ceremony at its smart factory for the first batch of 10,000 electric vehicles destined for the Gulf and South Central American regions, officially marking the brand's international strategic push. On May 22, 2024, the delivery ceremony for the first batch of 300 Yiwei 3 vehicles exported to the UAE was held, with the vehicles delivered to one of the UAE's largest car dealers, formally entering the local market. Prior to this, JAC Group had built a strong foundation in the UAE—in 2023 alone, it exported nearly 10,000 units to the UAE, with actual terminal sales exceeding 7,000 units, a year‑on‑year increase of 307.69%, ranking first among Chinese independent brands in the UAE market.

Yiwei 3 was offered in different versions tailored to overseas markets, including African, EU, Middle Eastern, and Gulf editions, to meet varying regulatory, environmental, and driving habit requirements. In July 2025, the Overseas Edition of the Yiwei 3 was launched in Colombia as the "E30X," with a "Plateau Edition" targeting high‑altitude areas, and ranked among the top in the local four‑door small EV segment. In Chile, the Yiwei 3 (E30X) went on sale starting at 19.99 million Chilean pesos (approximately 156,000 RMB)—2.28 times its domestic price, demonstrating strong export premium capability.

JAC Group is also pursuing CKD assembly production through overseas KD plants (such as the Kazakhstan CKD facility) and joint ventures in Vietnam, Malaysia, and other markets. By the end of 2025, the Yiwei 3 Overseas Edition had achieved bulk deliveries across multiple regions, including the Gulf, North Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and the EU, earning positive user feedback in overseas markets.

Future Outlook

The future of JAC Yiwei is closely tied to JAC Group's "passenger car integration" strategy. As the group shifts its strategic focus toward the premium "Zhunjie" brand—co‑developed with Huawei—JAC Yiwei is transitioning from a standalone brand to a component within the "JAC Passenger Vehicles" system.

On the product side, the existing Yiwei 3 will continue to receive annual facelifts and OTA updates. However, earlier‑planned new models—such as the Yiwei X3 and Yiwei 5—have slowed in pace and will be coordinated and progressed under the group's overall passenger car strategy. Overseas markets will remain the core sales pillar for the Yiwei brand, leveraging JAC Group's global network to deepen localisation in the Middle East, Latin America, Africa, and Southeast Asia, while continuing to pursue multi‑regional certification and bulk deliveries of the Yiwei 3 Overseas Edition.

The brand will stay true to its mission of "creating green and joyful intelligent mobility," continuously improving product quality and service experience, and delivering better value to global young users through Chinese smart mobility solutions. Over the longer term, as the benchmark smart plant—co‑built by JAC and Huawei with an annual capacity of 200,000 units—gradually comes online, the overall R&D, manufacturing, and brand strength of JAC Passenger Vehicles is expected to grow, providing a more solid foundation for the next phase of the Yiwei brand's market expansion.
